LEICESTER’S SPEEDWAY SUCCESS STORY

LEICESTER co-promoter Neil Machin has labelled 2019 the most successful in the club’s history – even though they’ve won nothing yet!

Both of their teams at Championship and National League level have finished top of the table heading into the play-offs.

And this weekend the senior side, the Watling JCB Lions, are in the first national final since 1975 when they lost to Belle Vue in the Knockout Cup.

Stewart Dickson’s men head to Eastbourne for the first leg of the Championship Shield on Saturday before the return at the Paul Chapman and Sons Arena on Sunday (5pm).

And Machin said: “This year will go down as the most successful in the club’s history, whatever happens from here.

“For this club to have both teams top of the table at the end of the regular season is a wonderful achievement and we should all feel very proud.

“But at the same time we still have a lot of work ahead of us because as we have seen down the years finishing top doesn’t necessarily mean you go on and win the Grand Final!

“We now need the support of the Leicester public to get behind us and we are expecting a great atmosphere on Sunday.”

The Paul Chapman and Sons Arena is at Beaumont Park LE4 1DS and fans are urged to arrive early on Sunday.
